Improving Communication in Parkinson’s with LSVT LOUD: Evidence-based Speech Therapy

LSVT LOUD (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment) speech treatment for people with Parkinson disease (PD) has been developed and researched over the past 25 years. LSVT LOUD is the only speech treatment for people with PD that has three randomized control trials (highest level of evidence) and long-term data of its effectiveness. This presentation will: 1) briefly explain advances in neuroscience that have had a positive impact on the field of rehabilitation for people with PD, 2) describe development, data and key aspects of the LSVT LOUD treatment, 3) discuss application of LSVT LOUD beyond PD to other neurological conditions and childhood dysarthrias (e.g., cerebral palsy) and 4) provide details on the upcoming LSVT LOUD Training and Certification Course coming to Aveiro, Portugal on May 17-18, 2019.
