Patricia (Tricia) Brown, PT, DPT, Board Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist
LSVT BIG Faculty
Clinical Associate Professor at Chapman University, Orange County, CA
Short description of what you do:
I am a physical therapist clinician-educator. For the past nine years, I have been teaching full time in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Chapman University in Orange County, California. I teach General Practice Management, Neurologic Practice Management, and Advanced Practice Management in Neurologic Physical Therapy. I am also actively involved in our Interprofessional Practice Education (IPE) Simulations. I continue to see patients in home and community settings for rehab and wellness. I am a Board of Director member and Instructor for PEP4U, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing no-cost exercise, education and peer support for those living with Parkinson’s disease in Orange County. Prior to embarking on my teaching career, I was a clinician for 26 years specializing in Neurologic populations with subspecialties in Parkinson’s disease and Vestibular Rehab.
How long have you been with LSVT Global?
I was originally certified in LSVT BIG in 2009. I am blessed to begin working with LSVT Global as faculty since 2011 – and what a gift this is!
What is your favorite part of the job/what do you enjoy most?
My favorite part of my current job is seeing students transforming into critical thinking, evidence-aware physical therapists. Just as our patients receiving LSVT BIG report their “ah-ha” moments, I love to hear and see student’s ah-ha moments when they were able to successfully assist a patient in solving a mobility problem or get fired up on an exercise wellness program. One of the highlights is where these moments come together in the form of our PD Boot Camp where we bring persons living with Parkinson’s on campus for a short intensive, inter-professional program. I get to see our students bring their entire education and clinical growth to fruition as they provide high quality interventions and education for the participants. So much fun!
My favorite part of being faculty for LSVT BIG is being able to work with amazing clinicians in the other faculty and with the clinicians who take the courses. There is an infectious energy to learn and help people with PD. It truly warms my heart.
Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a person who loves my Catholic faith, my family and my career. I enjoy spending time reading, running, hiking, camping, biking, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
I have 2 grown daughters, one son-in-law and 2 grandpuppies.
My favorite quote or favorite food or favorite past time:
One of my favorite things to do is take long walks on the beach – especially in the winter, and I love a good piece of driftwood.
Dr. Tricia Brown beautifully complements our LSVT BIG training faculty with her thoughtful and meticulous approach to teaching and her dedication to translating research into clinical practice.
