LSVT Global Team Member Spotlight! Thomas Brauer

Thomas Brauer, LSVT LOUD SLT & LSVT Global Representative Germany

What do you do?

I have been a “Logopäde” (the German form of Speech-Language Therapist) since 1980, a teacher for speech and language disorders caused by neurological diseases, and the principal of a dedicated team in the school for logopedics at Gutenberg University Mainz.

How long have you been with LSVT Global?

From 2007 to 2013, I supported LSVT LOUD Workshops in Germany in my role as a member of the dbl-board (dbl is the German sister of ASHA). During this time, I started to translate the LSVT Companion into German. In 2014, I officially became the LSVT Global Representative, Germany.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Everything – supporting LSVT certified clinicians, demonstrating LSVT LOUD and the LSVT Companion, organization of LSVT LOUD and LSVT BIG courses in the German speaking countries, management of the German LSVT website www.lsvt.de … but mostly: cooperation with and hosting of the members of the LSVT Global family.

Tell us a little about yourself:

I am married to Brigitte, who is also an LSVT LOUD certified SLT although she is working with children in her private practice. Our personal and professional journey has been for 33 years now. Three grown up children and their partners know LSVT and the loud “Aaaahs” as well as my grandchildren Johanna and Anton.

Favorite quote, food, or pastime:

“Einfach tun!”  – “Just do it!”  is my motto. And if I am not busy with Logopädie, you´ll probably find me mountain biking, jogging, hiking and of course enjoying my espresso at any time of the day.

“It is difficult to be concise when summarizing all the wonderful characteristics of Thomas!  He is simply the BEST – professional, organized, dedicated, cool and calm!  He is truly a global ambassador for LSVT LOUD and LSVT BIG. He also spearheaded the translation of the LSVT Companion and the LSVT BIG exercise video into German. He is passionate about helping people with Parkinson’s and other disorders improve communication, movement and quality of life. He is equally dedicated to the education of speech therapy students in Germany and professional speech therapists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists through LSVT LOUD and LSVT BIG training courses. We have been blessed to have Thomas on our team and we look forward to many more years of working together.”
